Peeps turns one- Part 1

Happy Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend! We had a busy Saturday running around and relaxed on Sunday. It was one of those lazy Sunday afternoons...Penelope was sleeping, Drew was working in the yard, while I was drinking coffee and drooling over kitchens on Pinterest. I love those kind of afternoons, all is right in the world!

While I was relaxing, I came across pictures from Penelope's first birthday. Yes, it was months ago and yes, I am just now thinking about putting them up in frames. GAH! Better late than never!

Her party was a crazy amount of work, probably because we threw her two parties and made everything from scratch. And when I say everything, I mean everything. I am still recovering which is probably why I'm just now getting around to posting pictures.

The party was a huge success and the pictures, ohmyword, the pictures! Amazing!
My very talented sister in law took all the photos and did such an amazing job, my heart almost burst looking at all of them. #cutenessoverload

If you're looking for a photographer in the Southern California area, you must check her out at Firefly Studio. She's a doll and a great photographer to boot!

So, we threw 2 parties for a couple of reasons. There are 12 of us in our baby playgroup and that many babies plus families would have just been too much so Penelope and her bestie Nora had a party with our playgroup on Saturday then Penelope had a party with just family on Sunday. It actually worked out really well because we just kept everything up throughout the weekend and got to celebrate twice!

I'll start with pictures of the girls on their bestie party day.

First things first, the invitations. We went with a gold, pink, and glitter theme with "She leaves a little sparkle wherever she goes" as our title. Very girlie and very over the top but oh so much fun!

OHMYHECK!

Have you every seen anything so cute?!?

The cakes we made from scratch...I'm in love with the way they turned out! The banners with the girl's names were also made by us...I told you, everything!

We had this little frame with pictures of the girls from their first year...so many precious memories!

#heartmelting

We didn't get all of the babies in one shot as they were all over the place...literally but here's a picture of the party table. Handmade banner and all the goodies. Yum!

I'd say they took pretty good care of those cakes!
We made the name banners over their highchairs as well as the burlap "1" banners that went around the highchairs.

And of course, every girl needs two party outfits! After the cake debacle, we needed a change of clothes so we switched them into these outfits. Pants and onesies from Hobby Lobby, cupcake and headbands created by us!

{I should mention that Nora's mom is basically supermom and is the craftiest, most creative person ever, which made party planning with her oh so easy!}

Here are a few photos of some of the treats we made as well as paper garland that was hanging everywhere! We made the cupcake toppers as well, super easy to do! WHEW! I'm tired just looking at all these photos! It was such a special day and all of our hard work paid off in a big way seeing those sweet girls enjoy their special day!

I'll be back soon with Part 2 and include some tutorials for all of the goodies we made!

Happy Mother's Day!

I'm sneaking away for a few moments to stop in and say, Happy Mother's Day! What a blessing and privilege it is to be a mama...and a whole lotta work! Can I get an Amen?!? I have grown and been challenged this past year like never before. Having a child has opened my eyes and heart to a small glimpse of how God must love us. Such a powerful and life-changing experience!

I hope today is a day of rest and relaxation for you as you get pampered and spend special time with your family. Happy Mother's Day to you mamas out there...you're job is priceless and no one could do it quite like you!

Happy Wednesday!

Happy Wednesday, all! The sun is shinning here in Seattle and the weekend is fast approaching! I have family coming in town to visit and I've been up to my elbows in cleaning this house! Trying to appear as if it's effortlessly clean and comfortable...a real stretch with a one year old! We cleaned out our "junk room" (yes, we have a junk room, and yes, it still has boxes that we haven't unpacked from our move 2 years ago!) and I realized once again, we have TOO MUCH STUFF!  And the stuff we have, I don't like.

Sigh.

Time to get more stuff...new stuff. Haha! The Hubs would die if he read this...moving on.

While I've been up to my elbows in cleaning at home, we've been up to our ears in poetry at school. Spring always feels like a great time for poetry. Flowers are out, the birds are chirping, the sun is shinning, perfect for a little poetry!

My bulletin board needed a little freshening up so we made these cute little guys to go with our Cinquain poems.

I got the original idea off of Pinterest but can't find it now...basically we just drew little pictures of ourselves holding colorful umbrellas then used straws to  carefully blow blue paint around our drawings. The little cuties were too excited to do this project! A great behavior incentive!

I love these rainbow similes! We brainstormed as a class then got to work creating our similes using black sharpies and watercolors. Love how bright and colorful these turned out! I got this idea from Cara Carroll years ago and as far as I'm concerned, it's still a winner!

And of course our Rainbow Name-bow Acrostic poems! These are a hit every year and a must to brighten up the classroom! I got this from Mr. Reagan Turnstall and if you don't have it, it's a must!

In unrelated news, we headed to the Tulip Festival to see fields and fields of these beauties! Makes me wish for a green thumb! Tulips for as far as the eye can see!

Oh-so lovely!

Yes, my friends, Spring is in the air and I'm loving every second of it!
